BodogPoker Unveils Online “Miniature World Series of Poker” Tournament

US friendly online poker room, BodogLife (previously Bodog.com), announced Monday its hosting of the Mini-SOP; an online, miniature version of the World Series of Poker, to be held alongside the actual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. The 25-event tournament will feature mimics of all Hold’em events in the WSOP.

BodogPoker’s Mini-SOP tournament will begin May 30th, running through July 3rd. All buy-ins are equal to 1% of the actual WSOP mirror-event buy-ins, with each event scheduled for the same day as it’s WSOP counterpart.

When the BodogPoker.com 25-event Mini-SOP comes to a close, a final event will be held on July 10th, awarding 3 seats to the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event.

The miniature online poker version of the WSOP will get underway May 30th with a Pot Limit Hold’em event, featuring a 1% buy-in of the WSOP’s $10,000 PL Hold’em event. As such, online poker players will be able to enter Bodog Poker’s version for a mere $100+$9.

Throughout the Mini-SOP series, buy-ins will range from $10+$1 to $100+$9, for a grand total of $821 to enter all 25 Mini-SOP events. A Leaderboard competition will be held during the online poker series to determine who is invited to the exclusive finale, awarding 3 2009 WSOP seats on July 10th. The top four players on Mini-SOP Leaderboards will automatically gain entry to the finale tournament, while positions 5-100 will compete for 18 seats. Five additional seats will be awarded in “wild card” fashion with a random drawing, including the names of all players who enter at least three events in the Bodog Poker Mini-SOP.

Alwyn Morris, CEO of Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, licenser of BodogPoker, commented on the upcoming online poker tournament series, “We’re happy to offer those not able to attend the 2008 WSOP in person an affordable and exciting online alternative. For only 1 percent of the standard WSOP Main Event buy-in cost, Bodog online poker players can have a shot at the Mini-SOP crown and three $12,000 prize packages including entry into the 2009 WSOP Main Event.”

Bodog Poker is not the only online poker room to present such a tournament series. FullTilt Poker has also announced it will be hosting a “Mini Series of Poker”, scheduled to mimic all 54 events of the WSOP at a 1/100 fraction of the original buy-in.
