UltimateBet’s Phil Hellmuth Ousted From 2008 WSOP Main Event

And so history will not be made this summer as WSOP Main Event hopeful Phil Hellmuth busted out Sunday to finish 45th overall. Thus, UltimateBet.com’s Hellmuth will not be breaking his own record of 11 WSOP Bracelets this year, while assuring a new WSOP Champion will claim the crown.

Hellmuth was the last man standing in the 2008 WSOP Main Event who had won the championship previously, back in 1989. It is amazing enough that UltimateBetPoker Pro Phil Hellmuth could outlast such a large field of 6,844 to finish in the 45th spot, solidifying his true abilities as one of today’s most fearsome poker pros.

Phil’s final hand went down with A-Q, pushing all-in with his remaining stack of 405,000 chips. As the cards came down, Hellmuth’s A-Q could not stand against Andrew Rosskamm’s Pair of Jacks. Even with a Flush Draw on the Turn, Hellmuth floated down the River to collect $154,400.

Coincidently, New York’s Andrew Rosskamm was also eliminated later that day, along with Mike Matusow, Garret Beckman, David Benefield and a few other well-knowns.

As the last day of the 2008 WSOP Main Event gets underway, only 27 competitors remain. All eyes remain focused on the three final tables as they slowly dwindle to one, where a single competitor will soon be crowned the 2008 WSOP Main event Champion.
