Texas Holdem Rules - Quick Summary

Each player starts with two hole cards. There are three rounds of community cards. These are dealt face up, for every player to use, with betting after each round. The best 5-card hand using any combination of the five community cards and two hole cards wins. Each new hand begins with a small blind, a big blind, and a round of betting. The betting rules vary depending upon whether the game is Limit, Pot Limit or No Limit.

Texas Holdem Rules - The Open

The dealer deals two pocket cards to each player. A round of betting commences.

Texas Holdem Rules - The Flop

The dealer lays out three “community cards”, that is, cards that everyone uses to make their best poker hand. Another round of betting occurs.

Texas Holdem Rules - The Turn

The “turn” is the fourth community card. A round of betting happens, based on this card as well.

Texas Holdem Rules - The River

The final community card, called the river, is dealt face up. A final round of betting goes on and the player with the best 5 card poker hand wins the pot.
